Abstract

Large diameter bored and cast in place piles were used in renovation design of Latvia Nationaal Opera house. The piles diameter was 1,50 m, length - 17 m. Distance to the nearest foundations of existing building of old Opera house - 3,50 m. The installation was done with equipment "KATO", produced in Japan. The borehole steel casing the first eleven meters go through medium, water-saturated sand, the next two meters - through clay soils, the last four meters - through marl with gypsum. After installation one corner of the existing building of old Opera house had a large settlement of 40 mm per four years. The checking of installation work records revealed serious mistakes in installation process
