Abstract
During the last 25 years Linz has changed its identity from an industrial city to a city of museums, fine arts and academic education. Museums for contemporary arts, science and technology were built and a new opera house was opened in spring 2013. The Upper Austrian State Library used the historic opportunity of Linz becoming the ,,2009 European Cultural Capital" to renovate the building dating to the 1930s and to build an extension.
