Abstract

Conveyor systems are one of the commonly used devices for the transportation of parts from one workplace to another in manufacturing systems. In the domain of automated assembly, the requirement to realise a truly Flexible Conveyor System (FCS) can be very demanding and it is difficult to design using conventional design and programming tools. The requirements of an FCS are discussed and the current problems and limitations with conventional implementations are outlined. An object-oriented software model and an integrated design and programming platform are proposed for implementing an FCS to be used in automated assembly applications.
